The Skate

This the eighth year that we are hosting the skate ministry here at Third Church. Middle school kids (grades 4-8) skate on Monday nights from 7-9 PM and older skaters (grades 9-12 and college age) skated from 7-9 PM on Thursday nights.

Our average Monday attendance is 30-plus, and our average Thursday attendance is 20-plus. In addition to the large half pipe that sits under the gray tarps when most of us are around on Sunday, we have several portable ramps that are set in various formations around the parking lot. All of this makes for a very busy and full parking lot on Monday and Thursday evenings.

During the course of an average evening, the groups get to skate for about two hours, as long as they are willing to listen to a 7-10 minute talk related to Christianity and the Bible. An effort is made to make these talks as relevant and as easy to understand as possible without compromising the message of the gospel. This ministry still remains an evangelistic outreach to the community youth and their families.

There are numerous volunteers involved both during the week and behind the scenes - and there is always room for more volunteers who are interested in getting involved with this ministry! Also, a big thank you to the church council who has wholeheartedly endorsed this ministry purchase.
